RBC Learn to Play Team competition

Athletics Ontario has been successful in attracting a grant from the RBC Learn to Play project to host a number of OT Fitness Team Competitions within the Greater Toronto Area. 

The grant is awarded to help promote fun in athletics Team Competition for school children ranging from grade 7 to grade.  The first of these exciting events will be held at the David Suzuki Secondary School – details below.  Please come along and offer your support – the kids will really appreciate it!  The press is welcome as always too.

EVENT START:  9:30 am.  Event should be completed by 12:00pm

Please ensure that you arrange to arrive at the school 30 minutes prior to the start of the competition.  The competition will start as soon as all the teams have arrived.

The winning team will be invited to represent Peel at the Ontario Finals on around March /  April  2015 in Toronto.  (Start time 9:30am)

Please take the time to read the following instructions thoroughly and comply with all requirements, so as to help the smooth running of the competition.

 Schools competing in this competition are as follows:

  1. David Leeder Middle School
  2. McCrimmon Middle School
  3. Beatty-Flemming Middle School
  4. Cheyne Middle School
  5. Centennial sr. Public School
  6. Balmoral Drive Sr. Public School

Important requirements to be completed prior to the event:

  • Select and declare a team.
  • Arrange transport to and from the competition venue.
  • Secure permission and media release forms from each student participant.
  • Invite parents and community members to the event.

Helpful information at the event:

  • Each school will be given a bag of colored pennies for the team to wear
  • Each athlete will be given a chance to practice the field event before the official scoring begins.
  • Coaches, Teachers and Parents may be asked to participate in non-scoring relays and events – Please come prepared to participate!
  • Rude language, booing, name-calling are not acceptable. We are all at the event to have fun and encourage each other.
  • The speed bounce and soft javelin events are held at the end of round three in open floor space. All competitors entered in the events will be called to compete at the same time.

Each student is limited to a maximum of 2 Running Events and 2 Field Events. Students may not participate in 2 different field events in the same round.
