The 2014 Athletics Ontario Elementary School Team Competition

We are inviting 6 schools from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) to field a team of 15 Girls and 15 Boy from grade 6 &7 to participate in this yearly event. Due to the school strike during the 2012-13 school years we were unable to host this event.  Terry Fox (TDSB) in Scarborough is the current reigning Team Competition Champions for this event. Coach Patrick Chan has already accepted our invitation to participate and is looking forward to defending the schools title.

We have already accepted the following schools as participants:

Date of Cometition:    Thursday April 3, 2014

Venue:                        L’Amoreaux Collegiate Institute
2501 Bridletowne Cir, Scarborough, ON, M1W2K1

Start Time:                  9:00am Arrival for 9:30am Start

Each school team will consist of a maximum of 15 boys and 15 girls from the selected grades that will participate in team relays and individual field events in a team format with 5 other schools. The event takes approximately 2½ hours to complete and is free to enter.

Each student is limited to a maximum of 2 Running Events and 2 Field Events. Students may not participate in 2 different field events in the same round.

The commitment from each school would involve: Selecting your participants and arranging transportation to and from the competition site. Please bear in mind that athletic ability is not the only criterion in team selection, we also want to encourage students who may not normally participate in team sports (we are not however responsible for schools team selection).

Important requirements to be completed prior to the event:

  • Select and declare a team.
  • Arrange transport to and from the competition venue.
  • Team Declaration sheets. This sheet is for your use at the competition. This will also help your organization at the event.
  • Secure permission and media release forms from each student participant.
  • Invite parents and community members to the event.

Helpful information at the event:

  • Each school will be given a bag of colored pennies for the team to wear
  • Each athlete will be given a chance to practice the field event before the official scoring begins.
  • Coaches, Teachers and Parents may be asked to participate in non-scoring relays events – Please come prepared to participate!
  • Rude language, booing, name-calling are not acceptable. We are all at the event to have fun and encourage each other.
  • The speed bounce and soft javelin events are held at the end of round three in open floor space. All competitors entered in the events will be called to compete at the same time.

All members of the media are most welcome and indeed encouraged to attend.
